Avera Medical Group Sibley and Osceola Regional Health Center Transitions to New Electronic Health Record

Patients will experience a new portal known as MyChart

On May 30, Avera Medical Group Sibley and Osceola Regional Health Center are changing to a new electronic health record (EHR) system through Epic. Patients will have a new, more robust patient portal known as MyChart. This will be in partnership with Avera and other Avera partner sites.

This transition includes all locations including hospital and clinic, along with services such as revenue and billing and, claims processing.

MyChart is a secure online health connection where patients can see their medications, test results, visit history, upcoming appointments, medical bills, price estimates and more all in one place, even if they’ve been seen at multiple health care organizations.

With MyChart, patients can:

  • Schedule primary care appointments more easily online or in the app.
  • Connect with providers with virtual visits.
  • Manage care for family members.
  • Pay premiums and see medical bills.
  • See current prescriptions and request refills.

“This is a transformational project. What we are building together is a stronger, more connected system that will serve our patients and community for decades to come,” said Joe Heitritter, CEO of Osceola Regional Health Center.

Patients are receiving communications about this change. Current patients and new patients will need to create a new account on or after May 30. Learn more, get updates, register and log in at www.avera.org/mychart or www.osceolarhc.org/mychart.

Most information will be transitioned to each patient’s new MyChart portal. The former patient portal will provide view-only access for patients for a limited time.

Teams have been working diligently throughout the past two years to prepare for a successful go-live. We ask for patience and understanding from people who access care on or right after the May 30 go-live date as staff are learning a new system.

The transition will yield improved access to information for patients and caregivers alike, better patient engagement, greater safety and improved outcomes.

“Our improved electronic health record will allow care teams more time to connect meaningfully with patients and focus on what truly matters—high quality and compassionate care,” said Denise Kuiper, Avera Medical Group Sibley clinic manager.

Nationwide, more than 325 million patients have a current electronic record in Epic. It is the largest EHR provider in the country and holds the largest share of U.S. hospitals. Epic’s MyChart app is the most downloaded health app in the country.
